Mission

aesthete and philistine's mission is to acknowledge that we are. To accept that we are is to appreciate that which we find beautiful and that which we misunderstand.

Who is it?

aesthete and philistine was created by Marcus Chapman, now a cook, but once and always many other things.

aesthete and philistine is the realization that we are not one single identity. That we hover between the poles of recognizing beauty and beauty not yet understood.

This change in ideas led to a change of clothes. These clothes represent not one identity, but the idea that we have the potential to be and continually are many different things. We are the AND between aesthete and philistine.

aesthete and philistine is an acknowledgement of both the loftier and depraved sides of humanity. A nod to all of us. Recognizing that all humans are tragically and triumphantly both. Never praising or devaluing one over another, we simply acknowledge that we are all at once both aesthete and philistine.
